CS8 athletes make college decisions

3 days ago Three Central State Eight Conference schools held ceremonies to recognize their athletes making college decisions. Springfield High School held an honorary signing ceremony for 16 athletes, including NCAA Division I-bound Nate Cheung (soccer at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville) and Matt Severino, a kicker who will play football at Eastern Illinois. 4 days ago  Springfield High’s Kira Brown threw a complete game and had three hits with a double as the Senators routed Decatur MacArthur 11-2.  Springfield High’s Trevor Minder double, homered and went 3-for-3 with three runs scored to propel the Senators to a 9-0 victory over host Decatur MacArthur in a Central State Eight Conference game. Clark leads Southeast on mound, at plate

4 days ago Southeast broke a tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then added six more in the sixth to top Decatur Eisenhower 10-2 in a Central State Eight Conference game. Eddie Saner, Anthony Clark and Matt Bloomberg had two hits apiece for Southeast. Mitch Crofton scored two runs and had two RBI. Clark got the pitching win for the Spartans, throwing a complete-game three hitter. He allowed both runs in the first inning but bounced back to strike out 15. Taken from the Sj-r.com

Lanphier’s Herron off to fast start in 400, long jump

Apr 7, 2017 Dearis Herron had never cracked 50 seconds in the 400-meter dash. The Lanphier High School senior crossed that off the list at the Class 2A State Track and Field Meet last May in Charleston. He clocked a career best 49.53 in the 400 preliminaries before placing third in the finals. “I was super nervous so it might have helped,” Herron said. “I caught a lot of people. Apr 5, 2017 Reid Detmers pitched another four innings of hitless baseball but was lifted for the fifth inning in 1 2-0 Chatham Glenwood win over Lanphier. Mariah Jorquei recorded two goals and two assists and McKenna Mathoit scored a hat trick to lead Springfield to an 11-0 win over Decatur Eisenhower. Shaul Latif improved to 6-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 1 singles as Springfield High beat Rochester 6-0 in a game called after the six singles matches due to rain. Taken from Sj-r.com  

Lobmaster, McClanahan shock Lincoln

Apr 5, 2017 In the final minute and Lincoln leading 1-0, Chloe Lobmaster took a shot from midfield, kicked it “sky high” and bounced it into the left corner to allow Southeast to take Lincoln into overtime. There, Kelsey McClanahan scored 30 seconds into the golden goal extra period, giving the Spartans a 2-1 Central State Eight Conference win. Lincoln’s Faith Turley scored on a second-half penalty kick to put Lincoln ahead 1-0. READ MORE

Ebener succeeds Graham as SHS tennis coach

Apr 5, 2017 Josh Ebener was approved as interim boys tennis coach at Springfield High School at Monday’s Springfield School Board meeting. Ebener takes over immediately after Ross Graham suddenly submitted his resignation as both the boys and girls tennis coach, on March 22. Ebener coached at Chatham Glenwood from 1981-86 and at Springfield High from 1987-98. He’s also coached girls tennis at both schools, but not for the same length of time. Taken from Sj-r.com
