Creasey Construction Helps AVID

Dec 20, 2011 AVID received a wonderful donation from Creasey Construction to aid in the projects and field trips that will be occurring during the second semester. Creasey Construction joins Ridings Plumbing and Windsor Homes as loyal AVID supporters. The teachers and students are grateful for their interest in helping our students be college ready.

Area Businesses Assist AVID Program

Dec 8, 2011 AVID staff graciously thanks Mike Niehaus of Windsor Construction and John Ridings of Ridings Plumbing for their gracious and generous donations to the AVID Program in Springfield District #186. Through their generosity, the students will be able to take college field trips and participate in our new partnership with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library.

Keona Awarded the LLCC scholarship

May 25, 2011 Congratulations to our 8th grade AVID student, Keona B. for receiving the LLCC scholarship award. This high honor will pay for Keona's first two years of college. We are very proud of her and wish her the best for the future which will be very BRIGHT. Along with this award, she receive student of the year for AVID, High honor roll, and student of the year. She is a hard worker and well deserving of all these awards.

Grant Middle School

Mar 17, 2011 Grant Middle School 8th grade AVID students displayed their Career Research projects in the school library. They are following up their research with a powerpoint presentation and speech. Both 7th grade and 8th grade GMS AVID students attended the University of Illinois Engineering Day on March 11th. Students were able to engage in hands-on activities and see demonstrations of projects designed and researched by the engineering school college students.

Franklin Middle School

Feb 21, 2011 Franklin Middle School students are teaching AVID strategies throughout the building via the morning announcements. Four students led the morning announcements discussing how to take Cornell Notes in classes throughout the day. As they spoke, Franklin students took Cornell Notes for future reference and even asked for Cornell Note taking paper to use in their core classes.

Southeast Hosts Parent Night

Sep 24, 2008 Southeast High School hosted its Parent Night on Tuesday, September 2, 2009. Over 50 parents and students were in attendance to hear veteran teacher, Betsy Dye, explain the program and entertain questions. Mrs. Dye had prepared an extensive packet of information for families and shared with them the successes of Southeast's AVID program. This is Southeast's 5th year as an AVID school and can boast graduating the first group of seniors this past spring. READ MORE
