Bill Norwood

October 24, 2014

Norwood became Southern's first African-American
quarterback and was later inducted into the Saluki Hall
of Fame. He began a 31-year career with United Airlines
in 1965, becoming the company's first African-American
pilot and the first to achieve the rank of captain. When
he retired in 1996, United honored Norwood by painting his
name on the side of a United Airlines aircraft that is part of
the Take Flight exhibit in the Museum of Science and Industry
in Chicago.
