More than 400 students from Springfield middle and high schools will perform in the Springfield Public Schools’ annual All City Music Festival at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at the University of Illinois Springfield’s Sangamon Auditorium.
All groups will combine to perform the finale “Within These Hallowed Halls.” Choir and band members include students from Lanphier, Southeast and Springfield high schools; and Franklin, Grant, Iles, Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington middle schools.
Performances will be led by guest conductors. Lisa Whitley, retired music teacher from Quincy Public Schools, will conduct the middle school choir. Bekah Philbrick, director of bands for Auburn School District will conduct the middle school band. Abby Musgrove, professor of music at Illinois College, will conduct the high school choir and Matt Thomas, assistant director of bands at Western Illinois University, will conduct the high school band.
Music scores, octavos, and conductor stipends are funded by a grant from the Springfield Public Schools Foundation. There is no cost to attend the event.
