2016 Horace Mann Educator of the Year nominations now being accepted

Do you know an educator or administrator who inspires you? We’re now accepting nominations for the Horace Mann Educator of the Year, Administrator of the Year and Rising Star awards. Parents, students, fellow educators and community members can nominate deserving individuals by March 1, 2016.

This is the 29th year Horace Mann is honoring excellence in education by awarding outstanding teachers. The Educator of the Year program recognizes the top teachers in Springfield Public School District 186, and the fourth annual Administrator of the Year program honors the top administrators. In addition, three teachers will receive the Rising Star award. The Rising Star award is given to teachers who have no more than four years of experience and are showing great promise.

Nominations are due Monday, March 1, after which a committee composed of educators and community members will review nominations and select finalists. The award recipients will be announced in May. There are several ways to nominate a deserving educator:

Print and fill out the Educator of the Year/Rising Star nomination packet or Administrator of the Year nomination packet

The Educator of the Year will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a crystal owl award. Finalists will be honored with a $250 cash prize and a crystal apple award. Three Rising Stars will be honored with a $250 cash prize each. The Administrator of the Year will receive a $500 cash prize, and two finalists will receive a $250 cash prize.
