Black History Month events this week

February 23, 2016

Daily during the month of February:
-Ridgely Elementary students are reading quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr. during daily announcements.
-Franklin Middle School has a door decorating contest and decorations in its main lobby and stairwell, they have Black History t-shirts to be worn throughout the month, they have placed inspirational quotes on lockers and are sharing fast facts about influential African Americans daily during morning announcements.
-Feitshans Elementary will have videos and a treasure hunt for facts and will be doing a hallway decorating contest.
-Sandburg Elementary will have morning announcements and Instagram posts of famous African Americans and a classroom door decorating contest with historical facts. They will be turning the hallway into an African American museum.
Wilcox Elementary will have interactive displays in the front hallway highlighting famous African Americans.
Beginning today, Tuesday, Feb. 23 until Friday, Feb. 26
-Franklin Middle School students are writing letters about someone who has inspired them as a way to reflect on how that person has influenced their lives.
TOMORROW, Wednesday, Feb. 24:
-Zuzu African Acrobats perform at Southern View Elementary at 1 PM. The Zuzu Acrobats are from Mombasa, Kenya and were finalists on America's Got Talent. Their hour-long show consists of a lecture brought to life by limbo, contortion, hand balancing, hoop diving, bench and chair balancing, fast skip rope, comedy and much, much more!
-Black History Bowl at Dubois Elementary beginning at 12:30 PM
Friday, Feb. 26.
-Last preliminary round of African American Heritage Bowl Competition at Jefferson Middle School, 9:30 AM.
-Omega Psi Phi step show and lecture at Lindsay Elementary at 1 PM.
-Heroes and Heroines of the Past and Present Wax Museum at Feitshans Elementary at 10 AM and 1:30 PM.
