Lanphier High School’s Amber Sammons, Southeast High School’s Anne McAllister and Springfield High School’s Lucy Boucher have all been named Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Class of 2016.
The Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois is a scholarship program that identifies talented high school seniors who have the promise and drive to be excellent teachers in high-need schools.
The selection process is rigorous, requiring three essays, letters of reference, test scores, transcripts and an interview at the finalist stage.
Scholars receive up to $23,000 in tuition support, paid summer institutes that include courses and extensive classroom/work experience, academic support, job placement assistance, ongoing mentoring from award-winning teachers throughout college and during the early years of teaching. The scholars are invited to a ceremony in Chicago in May.
