Students at Lanphier, Southeast and Springfield high schools will be honored for their contributions to the local workforce at the 67th annual Cooperative Education Banquet, 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, at the Northfield Inn and Conference Center.
Students who are employed in the Springfield community as part of District 186’s Cooperative Education program and the businesses that they work for will be recognized at the banquet. Seven students will receive Student of the Year Awards and three supervisors will be recognized. Students in the Secondary Transition and Education Program (STEP) will also receive recognition.
Cooperative Education program students attend classes in the morning and go to work in the afternoon, where they learn critical career skills that help them upon entering the workforce or college. They earn credit and get paid to work in office occupations as well as foodservice and retail jobs. There are more than 125 work sites that students go to locally.
