ELC staff and students celebrate Week of the Young Child

April 24, 2017

Early Learning Center (ELC) is celebrating The Week of the Young Child from Monday, April 24, to Friday, April 28, with a special theme each day. The theme days are as follows:

Monday:  Dog Show!  We will have a dog show in the gym at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. put on by the Springfield Police Department.

Tuesday: Purple Day & Mayor Langfelder Day!  Wear purple for Week of The Young Child and celebrate with Mayor Langfelder!

Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday!  Wear wacky socks and a wacky hat!

Thursday: Sports Day! Wear your favorite team shirt and/or hat!

Friday:  Fill the ELC with Colors & Music Day! Children are a rainbow of possibilities, so wear your favorite color or tie-dye shirt for the music parade!   We will follow the bus lane route at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Sidewalk chalk will also be provided to each class to color the school grounds anytime throughout your day!

The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association, with nearly 80,000 members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates. The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.  NAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child™ in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life.
