Students at Lanphier, Springfield and Southeast high schools are preparing to celebrate one of the oldest and most successful programs in Springfield Public Schools. The 68th annual Coop Banquet is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, at Wyndham Springfield City Center, with the goal of recognizing the students who are gainfully employed in the Springfield community and the businesses that prepare them to enter the workforce or college with critical career skills. Seven students will receive Student of the Year Awards and three supervisors will be recognized.
Students who participate in the Cooperative Education program attend classes in the morning and go to work in the afternoon. They earn credit and get paid to work in office occupations as well as foodservice and retail jobs. Many supervisors in the program were once student participants themselves. There are more than 125 work sites that students go to locally.
