How can I enroll my child in Early Start?

How old does my child have to be to be screened?
It is recommended that children be near their 3rd birthday to participate in preschool screening.
How old does my child have to be to enroll?
Children who attend Early Start are 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1 of the year they are enrolled.
Where are Early Start classes located?
Early Start classrooms are located at the Early Learning Center, 2501 South First Street, in Springfield.
Can my child ride a bus to Early Start?
Transportation is offered to Early Start classrooms from within District 186 boundaries.
How will I know which session my child will attend if I enroll in Early Start?
If a child requires bus transportation, children are transported to the Early Start session assigned to specific transportation boundaries. If you transport your child yourself, you may choose the session your child attends.
Can parents be involved in their child's classroom at Early Start?
Absolutely! Parents and families are very important to a child's learning. All families are encouraged to be co-responsible for the child's education and are welcomed at school.
How will my child be assessed?
All children are assessed though authentic observations by teachers in the classroom during typical classroom experiences. Information is shared with families three times per year.
