"It Takes Everyone to Raise a Student's Achievement" was presented to the staff at Southeast on November 22, 2010.
The intended outcomes were as follows:
* Begin to move from parent involvement to Family And Community Engagement
* Share an understanding of the benefits of Family And Community Engagement
F.A.C.E. Co-chairs Dana Edwards and Candice Trees presented the information to staff during 7 class periods on this day. Each department had the opportunity to participate and engage in the discussion.
A slide presentation was shown, handouts were given to participants and they heard from a parent's perspective. Nalo Mitchell shared her experience as a parent and was there to support the Southeast F.A.C.E. team.
Each participant received a diamond to remind us that all of our children are precious gems that are cherished by their families. They are entrusted to us everyday 9 months out of each year. It is imperative that we include our families because they are a vital piece of the puzzle when it comes to student achievement. "According to research by Ron Ferguson, home and family factors...account for 49% of the influence on student performance." And as we help to shave and polish our gems we must remember to engage our families as we continuously work to improve student achievement.
