Supt. Student Roundtable hosts 2018 UNITY DAY

High School Students from five city high schools attended the 3nd annual Unity Day!  District 186 Superintendent’s Student Roundtable members and students from Lutheran & SHG planned and solicited donations for the event over the last few months.  Their focus for Unity Day this year was collecting household donations & funds for families helped by Sojourn Center & Services. Sojourn helps victims/familes of domestic violence.

Students learned about each other through play, they also created a bracelet for each other and one for the guest in Sojourn. The donations will be delivered later this week. Students enjoyed coming together and serving our community in a fun and impactful way.

The event was held at the BOS Center on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 and was sponsored by Springfield Public Schools Foundation, RMHS of Central Illinois, Country Financial, Scheels, & donations from the high schools.

download Visits to the Middle Schools

High School students on the Supt. Student Roundtable discussed their current visits to all middle schools and made suggestions for next year's visits:
Only one or 2 students talk with a group of students
Create an icebreaker to begin talk with 8th graders
Would like to have more direct contact with the students in smaller groups to help facilitate question and answer time
Let all students ask questions
Liked the Tips Handout and would add about lunch and phones
Overall students felt the visits were very successful! They may visit the schools again before the end of the year and create a video for Freshman Forward.
