Welcome to the Real World

Simulation for students to experience paying their bills for a month. In partnership with U of I Extension Services students meet with volunteers to pay their bills at 9 stations.  The experience takes about an hour for 40-50 students.  Volunteers are from our community and currently we have Bank members participating. This will happen 4 times during the year. Southeast High is our current site.

Making the Grade Conference

Making the Grade Conferencing is a way for the members of the community to reach out to our young people and encourage them to pursue academic excellence. During this half-day event, community volunteers visit the school to meet with students for one-on-one sessions to review their most recent progress report. During a 5-10 minute session with each student, volunteers review the student’s progress & discuss issues such as homework, work ethic, and planning for the future. Students then have the opportunity to connect with school representatives, community resources, and college, tech school, and military recruiters.

Reading Mentor Program

Reading scores improve for students with Reading Mentors. For the past three years volunteer community mentors have visited students weekly at lunch. The mentors provide reading support and build relationships that matter. For more information on how to start a reading mentor program contact Reading Coach Lindsey Rhodes at Harvard Park, 525-3214.
