What Does a Parent Mentor Do?
The Parent Mentor helps parents of children with disabilities navigate the special education system in partnership with school district personnel.
The Parent Mentor works to build a bridge joining administrators, teachers, staff, and families to help students succeed in school.
Some of the ways that the Parent Mentor supports parents and educators include:
• Providing workshops for parents, educators, and community members.
• Explaining the special education process to parents.
• Providing assistance with IEP meetings preparation/attendance.
• Helping parents to locate resources (community, regional, and statewide).
