D2P8 (DISABILITY TO POSSIBILITY) February 20, 2016, 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.: We have a great conference planned! We are excited to announce our keynote, Elizabeth Newton!
Blogger and special needs advocate, Elizabeth Newton, grew up with a sister with Down syndrome. That experience inspired her and her husband to begin their family by adopting a baby with Down syndrome. She documents her family’s story on the award-winning blog, “Confessions of the Chromosomally Enhanced” http://www.confessionsofthechromosomallyenhanced.com. In addition to a global blog following, Elizabeth has shared her message with special needs parent and student groups.
Elizabeth and her family appeared in the GiGi’s Playhouse 10th anniversary calendar which benefited the international Down syndrome achievement centers. They are currently featured in the GiGi’s Playhouse “One Million Voices” traveling gallery, a campaign designed to promote awareness and acceptance for individuals with Down syndrome.
Besides writing, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her family, photography, and a robust glass of Cabernet.
TOPIC: Elizabeth will speak about growing up in the special needs community, what she learned, and how she applies those lessons as she parents her own child with Down syndrome. Her sense of humor is sure to entertain as she shares how she educates and advocates for her daughter. She'll discuss how she takes advantage of resources offered, and lessons she's learned.
Registration will open February 1, 2016 at sps186.org. In the meantime, you are welcome to call Mary Wyman at 525-3060 with any questions.
