Braided Behavior Support Systems
District 186 uses BIST, PBIS, Restorative Practices and SEL as a braided approach to responding to behavior.
Social Emotional Learning Standards (SEL), Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST), Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Restorative Practices (RP) are multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS). Multi Tiered Systems of Support provide 3 tiers of intervention and a problem solving process for students both academically and behaviorally. The tiers provide a layering approach to intervening with additional skill building for students.
