Sep 14, 2010 Michael Havener's class at Ridgely has been talking about animal survival this week and are going to do a spin on an explore activity from chapter 4, lesson 6. The objectives of the lesson are to infer to importance of camouflage to survival and to recognize adaptations and explain how each benefits different animals. After discussing the material and vocabulary with the students in a mini-lesson, the students will go to the science area where the lab is set up. Nov 9, 2009 Marianne Seiz's students kick off a lesson by putting SOME of the Science vocabulary into their notebooks with the definitions. (She selects key words from the list) The words are then discussed to gain understanding. As the students work their way through the chapter, they use the key words in their writing. For each word they have used in a contextual manner, they get a treat--she has them circle the words and then she hands out treats--M&M's go a long way--when she collects notebooks. Oct 22, 2009 Science Tip of the Week by Lisa Schweska The fluency passage for a literacy class each week could be a passage from a current science lesson instead of a passage from a reading book. Not only does this reinforce science concepts, but it gives the kids fluency practice with nonfiction text. I also found a lesson on tying health, math, science, and Halloween together.
