On Wednesday, October 2nd, students participated in a camping-themed 100 Step Celebration.  Ball Charter students are committed to reading 4 steps every weekday and one step on the weekend.  By September 30th, students already reached 100 steps/1500 minutes.  They enjoyed a beautiful afternoon walking the Ball Charter trail (thank you to our PTO), eating granola bars, and listening to our guest banjo player, Blake Martin.

Ball Charter students enjoyed a wonderfully informative and engaging visit from local beekeeper, Gil Opferman, who provided facts, pictures, and actual bees for the crowd.  The students were able to see the bees up close in a protective box and even taste honey made from the bees.  His stories were interesting and humorous as the students learned all about the hive. Mr. Opferman is a retired principal who also has interests in gardening and participates extensively in local theatre.

Mr. Shanklin, who has been an educator in District 186 and is now a published author, has recently unveiled his new book “Seasoned” at a reception held at the Kidzeum Museum.  He visited Ball Charter School on Tuesday, May 21st for two assemblies.  He read his book to our K-5 students and provided some background in why he wrote the book and the challenges of publishing your own book.  He shared the same information with our 6th - 8th graders, but also spoke at length about becoming anything you want to be and having the work ethic to achieve your goals.  Autographed copies of his book ares available for sale (see Wednesday folders).
