What is Project Lead the Way (PLTW)?
Pursuant to our mission and vision, the Capital College Preparatory Academy embraces an instructional focus dedicated to promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills. One way in which the Academy cultivates these important skills is through the implementation of the Project Lead the Way curriculum. Project Lead the Way is a not-for-profit organization and the nation’s leading provider of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education for middle and high school students. Project Lead the Way’s use of hands-on, real-world projects makes math and science relevant for students. Research shows that this approach of activities-based learning, project-based learning, and problem-based learning increases student motivation, cooperative learning skills and higher-order thinking, and student achievement.
Each year, scholars at the Capital College Preparatory Academy will participate in the recommended Project Lead the Way unit. The sixth grade unit, Design and Modeling, will be taught by our certified Project Lead the Way teacher, Mr. Rosenberger. During this unit, scholars will learn more about the field of engineering, design using 3-D CAD software, and develop and test their own air skimmers.
