A new behavior management plan is being implement at Douglas. We call it Focus Fridays. It is a simple plan that allows every student the chance to be successful. Here are the basics:
Each student starts on Monday with 60 minutes of free time on Fridays.
Focus Friday will take place from 1:30-2:30 on all Fridays [with adjustments made for holiday weeks].
To maintain their 60 minutes, students must meet criteria in each of three areas: Grades, Behavior and Attendance, 20 minutes for each area.
Grades: No F’s, C average.
Behavior: 3 strikes and you’re out [for the behavior component]. Three times sent out of an assigned area for ANY reason is one strike. Safe Seat [in the room] is okay, it is a warning, not a strike.
Attendance: Must be present all five days. No unexcused absence. Written excuses from doctors, agencies, etc. must be provided upon return to school.
Students may earn, 20, 40 or 60 minutes of free time.
Students will sign up at lunch on Thursday for their chosen activity.
Students who do not meet criteria will have tutoring in classrooms.
Rewards for students who consistently earn Focus Fridays (in full) will be considered as the program progresses.
