Dear Dubois Families:
As we enter the last 20 days of school, I want to thank you for another great year at Dubois. We have accomplished many things this year that include securing a salad bar for our cafeteria, assuring that students are reading at their instructional level every day and deepening our commitment to respectful behavior. The fundraisers that you take part in support many things at Dubois such as our PBIS store, assemblies, playground equipment, miscellaneous items for the copier and books for every child at the third, fourth and fifth grade level. These are all things that we cannot afford without your support. Thank you.
As the weather warms up please remember that students should not wear spaghetti straps, tank tops with large arm openings and very short shorts. Additionally, flip flops are a real hazard here due to the stairs and the number of students that move around the building. You would be surprised how many students we have that come to the office on a weekly basis with broken flip flops.
At this point we do not have our scores back from our most recent ISAT scores, but we have every indication that we will show growth over last year. Our DIBELs scores are showing gains, our DRA scores are going up, the number of students in need of interventions are going down and our math scores have been consistently high all year. So we hope these signs, along with our hard work with guided reading, our students will meet expectations.
Lastly, as we look toward next school year, many families have requests for teachers for the 2012-13 school year. Though I try to honor requests as much as possible, it cannot always be done due to special education needs and student demographics. Therefore, if you have a request for a teacher next year, it MUST be in writing to me by May 25, 2012. I will only honor 20-25% in each classroom, so promptness counts.
Thank you for your continued support!
Cindy J. Baugher, principal
