The American Dental Association has designated February as National Children’s Dental Health Month. Please remind your child to brush AT LEAST two times a day-in the morning and before bed. Daily flossing helps remove food between teeth that can cause cavities. Also encourage your child to limit soda intake due to the acid in soda that damages teeth. Regular dental checkups help protect your child’s teeth, so call your dentist today to schedule an appointment. If you have questions or need assistance locating a dentist please call me at 525-3204. Mandatory Dental Exams
All Illinois children in kindergarten, second, and sixth grades are required that they have a dental examination by May 15, 2010. The dental examination must be completed by a licensed dentist and done within 18 months of the May 15 deadline. Children may apply for a waiver from this requirement if they demonstrate an undue burden or a lack of access to a dentist.
The ‘Proof of school Dental Examination Form’ and the ‘Dental Examination Waiver Form’ are uniform for statewide use and are available on the IDPH website, www.idph.state.il.us. Dentists or other organizations/agencies may link to the website to access the forms.
Written statements from the dental office for exams scheduled within 60 days after May 15th will be accepted. The appointment must be kept and the student must present proof of a completed examination at the beginning of the next school term.
“NO CHILD WILL BE KEPT OUT OF SCHOOL DUE TO THIS REQUIREMENT”
