“In 2004, the Illinois State Board of Education adopted learning standards for children’s social and emotional development, in addition to academic standards that exist for each grade. All schools in Illinois are charged with the responsibility of teaching children how to manage their emotions, get along with others, and make good decisions. Here at Fairview Elementary School, we are beginning work with The Children’s MOSAIC Project for the 2015/2016 school year to ensure that all children’s social and emotional health needs are being met. One way to provide this service is to gather information about a child’s development through universal screening. The goal of screening is to identify students early who may need support in these areas, as well as those who need additional help to stay on track. This screening will tell us if your child will benefit from extra support in the area of social and/or emotional development. An informational letter about our partnership with The Children’s MOSAIC Project will be shared with all Fairview families at the start of the school year; information can also be obtained from the Mrs. Troppa, the School Social Worker, or Mrs. Nikson, Principal. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are excited about this opportunity to provide these extra services to your child.”
