Franklin Middle School Washington, D. C. Trip
At approximately 12:45 today, our Cavallo bus was pulling away from Franklin and headed toward Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. The kids were quiet, visiting with one another and listening to music and before we knew it, we were unloading the bus headed toward security. We were also able to meet up with our always reliable Hemisphere representative Bill S. who has been on several Franklin excursions and just loves us. We love him too:>:)
While Cassie W. and I were waiting in line to check our luggage, the only 2 people out of 30, (I might add) I noticed a person standing at the next counter who looked a bit familiar to me. As I was trying to figure out who this person was she stepped aside with her boarding pass and walked away. I said to Cassie and the United rep. “ I think that person was a celebrity, I have seen her before.” The rep says, “That was Nora Dunn and she was very impatient.” Those of you who are around my age would know her from.....Saturday Night Live during the 80’s with Dana Carvey, Dennis Miller and others. Of course, the students had no idea what I was so excited about and neither did some of the parent chaperones. Am I really that old?
Our flight was fine and everyone was very polite to the other passengers which is always nice to see. Good manners count for a lot these days!
Our bus driver, Malcolm, aka “Road Dog” was very friendly and knew the short cut to the hotel. He gets a gold star on the first night. Our hotel, the Clarion- is nice and very accommodating. The kids are all nestled into bed prepared for a very fun-filled day of sight seeing and walking. They have no idea the walking that they will do. ( I love it:)
Before I say good night, some of the chaperones watched the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics playoff game together. It was great watching the Celtics win, but it also amazes me how these professional athletes make the millions that they make, and yet, a player can’t make his free throws to win the game. Food for thought!
Go Falcons!!!
