Dr. Singh from SIU School of Medicine visited Franklin Middle School’s gifted classes to present current information on stem cell research. Students gained insight into both the utilization and ethical concerns of using stem cells in the treatment of diseases, drug testing, and cell/tissue restoration. The increasing amount of research for use of non-ethical stem cells in treating patients has opened up an exciting opportunity for our students interested in pursuing the medical field. It was fascinating to find out what medical advancements are happening right here in Springfield, at SIU School of Medicine. We appreciate the information and future career opportunities suggested by Dr. Singh as we begin our investigation into cell structure and function in class. Thank you Dr. Singh for visiting our seventh grade classes.
