Good morning and welcome to Prime Time News!
Introduce: Officer Martin: Safety Tip of the Week!
No school on Monday, September 7, 2009 in observance of Labor Day.
A college expo and pep rally will be held for all 8th - 12th graders on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. It will be held at White Oaks Mall food court from 6:00-8:30 p.m. There will be free giveaways, entertainment, and you can talk to representatives from many different colleges.
Any girl interested in joining PAVE – Project Anti-Violence Education – can pick up an informational flyer and permission slip outside the Student Support Room – Room 205 – Mrs. Connolley’s room. The groups will begin on Friday, Sept 11th and will address the following topics:
Social skills, stress and anger management techniques, conflict resolution, an understanding of others and cultural differences, healthy relationships and lifestyle choices.
Groups will meet during the lunch shift in Room 205.
LOCKERS: Teachers: Students can go to their lockers: before school, after 2nd block, (8th grade/6th grade only an go before and after lunch), and then after-school. You cannot go get pe clothes – they need to be with you! Assign noon detentions if a student is at their locker w/out a pass.
SPORTS:
Cross Country: The boys and girls cross country teams have their first meet tonight at Washington Park. The meet begins at 4:30; team members should be at WP by 3:30pm. Good luck!
GBB 7/8 Try-outs for girls 7/8 basketball are today run thru Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 2:30-4:00PM. See Coach Hayes with ay questions or concerns.
6GBB –try-outs are on Wednesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 3 from 4:00-5:30 PM.
Cheerleading: Cheerleading practice is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 6:30-8:30 and again on Friday, Sept. 4 from 4-6.
INTRAMURAL GOLF: Any student interested in participating in our Intramural Golf program needs to pick up a flyer in the bookcase, from Ms. Jannazzo in room 107 or see Ms. Smith in the main office. We will begin our intramural league next Monday; the bus will pick you up here at Grant at 2:30 and take you to Brook hills Golf Club for a round of nine holes. The cost is $7.00 for Green Fees, if you need golf equipment that is another $7.00. The permission slip MUST be signed and returned to Ms. Smith no later than Friday, September 4, 2009. Questions see Ms. Jannazzo or Ms. Smith.

YEARBOOK:
Are you… creative, a good proofreader, a good photographer, dependable and outgoing? Mrs. Ridings is looking for these qualities for her yearbook staff. If interested in capturing memories that everyone will enjoy for years to come, get a yearbook interview sheet from the folder on the wall near room 220, fill it out, and return it to the folder by room 220.
All interview forms must be completed and turned in by Friday, September 4, 2009. Mrs. Ridings and your classroom teachers will choose the committee.
BIRTHDAYS: look on list and announce names!

Bottled water can be purchased all day in the main lobby. The Pepsi machines are turned off during the school day and then after-school they will be turned back on. We will also have a candy table that will only be available after-school. We need to leave the building in a timely fashion. The buses will pull out of the parking lot at 1:30 pm sharp every day this week.
CAFETERIA RULES:
REMIND students to leave your table in the cafeteria, you must raise your hand to be excused at all times while you are in the cafeteria.
No Food leaves the cafeteria-water only.
Once you leave the cafeteria you cannot return during lunch!
Explain the 5 min rule and the 2 min. rule!
Remind students about walking home and respecting the property of neighbors as well as area businesses. After-school if you need to cross the street in front of the school, please cross with an adult. Officer Martin or Mrs. Crum will assist you –DO NOT dart across the traffic.
Rubber bands are not allowed at school at any time!
Cell phones, CD, I pods and toys are not allowed on in the building at any time. If you are caught they will be taken, turned into the office, parents notified and will be responsible to pick up said items.
Students cannot leave campus after-school and return it is too dangerous and not allowed. Anyone caught doing this will receive a PM detention for 1-½ hours cleaning windows, lockers ……
BELTS: We have belts for sale in the main office. The cost is $2.00; see Ms. Mary before school to purchase a belt. Belt MUST BE a solid color only!
Shirts need to be tucked in at all times! This includes lunch. When you leave the building at the end of the day, you may untuck as you wish. NO SAGGING!
NO Baby Doll- sweaters allowed! BLACK JEANS- NOT ALLOWED!!!!!
There was a mistake in the handbook- NAVY blue polo’s are not one of our colors.
Another reminder…. We cannot wear shirts from last year that have student’s signature or graffiti on them- they are not allowed at all. Questions see Ms. Smith.
