Scholastic Read and Rise Family Reading Night and Book Fair at Harvard Park Elementary School will be held Wednesday, December 3, 5:00 - 7:30 pm at Harvard Park to support and celebrate Harvard Park’s efforts in making reading a habit at home!
It is a prestigious honor to have this partnership come to Harvard Park and we are excited for the opportunities it brings.
At this event, hosted by Scholastic, and sponsored by Kellogg’s and Walmart, families will participate in a family literacy workshop, facilitated by our own Title I Reading Team, where they will receive a Family Activity Reading Guide and book. Families will also have the opportunity to “Build-a-Book” with a kit provided by Scholastic. Also as part of this event, Harvard Park was selected to receive a sponsorship from Kellogg’s and Walmart that gives every student at Harvard Park a $7 certificate for use at the Scholastic Book Fair open this same night. Families will also receive dinner, which we know can be a barrier to attending evening events such as these.
How did Harvard Park get chosen for such an awesome partnership, you ask?
“We seek out schools that have a high percentage of Title I students, where a sponsorship would be particularly impactful. We want a school where the administration has demonstrated a high level of commitment to improving the lives of its students. The school should have a presence within the community. We often look to see if they have a website. If so, is it maintained? Does the school conduct any type of activities to encourage parent involvement? These are just a few of the characteristics that make a school a great candidate.”
Diana Quaid, Project Manager, Scholastic Book Fairs
"We know how vital reading is to improving students' abilities to learn. We also know how difficult it may be for some of our families to budget for the purchase of new and level-appropriate books. This event not only allows us to help fill this financial need, more importantly it gives all students another way to get excited about reading - It really is a Win-Win!"
