The New Hazel Dell Butterfly Garden/Outdoor Learning Environment

March 25, 2014

The Butterfly Garden Paver Project began as an idea that developed between the Hazel Dell Parent Teacher Club (PTC) and volunteer gardeners from the Franklin Park Neighborhood Association. It has grown/evolved to serve two purposes:

1) to provide a beautiful outdoor learning environment for Hazel Dell, and
2) to complete a major school garden beautification project

Our current Garden is overgrown and will be simplified to provide the school with landscaping that will minimize The degree of effort necessary as Hazel Dell works with our partners to maintain it twice per school year - once in the spring and once in the fall.

The Paver walkway in our new butterfly garden will feature a large circular section for classes to meet in the garden to read and learn. We are hoping to raise enough money with our Paver fundraiser to purchase 12 - 15 benches so that an entire class can sit around the circle and learn together.

The entrance to the Butterfly Garden near West Lake Shore Drive will feature a custom Arbor, which will prominently display the name of the school for all who drive by. This beautiful entrance will greet everyone entering our campus.
