The 5th grades at Iles School presented a living history project centered around the life of Abraham Lincoln. Eight groups researched, wrote a script about specific events that occurred during Lincoln's life, and even dressed for the time period.

On Tuesday evening, May 7, 2013 three musical programs were presented for parent, teacher, and student viewing pleasure. The third grade students performed a program based around heroes which correlated with their Heroes IB unit.

On March 28th, Iles Middle School students volunteered as Guest Chefs for the Ronald McDonald House as a service project. Angelica V., Colette W., Connor M., Cyrus D., Grace T., Lexi P. and Sierra B.

Team A (varsity) and Team B (junior varsity) have been competing since the end of January. Strategy and knowledge are contributing to the "success" that they seek. Although the season will not be finished until the end of April, Team B is undefeated and Team A has lost only once.

8th Grader Grace Thompson received the "Do the Right Thing" award from the Springfield City Council on 12-18-12, for her ongoing service learning work with Free the Children and the Me to We Leadership Team. Congrats to Grace for being a compassionate and active global citizen!

Swinging Singers Rocked the crowd at the 2012 Jingle Bell Rock Festival of Trees. They did a great job of representing Iles.

Lola, Abby and Sidney, art students of Mr. Robert Marcy, have their works of art displayed at the SIU School of Medicine. The students were honored at a reception on Friday, May 4 at SIU.

This Chinese New Year celebrating the Year of the Dragon, fifth grade artists illustrated Chinese dragons. Exploring the way the arts play a role in celebrations throughout different cultures, students learned the dragon to be a symbol of good fortune.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Landgrebe and the UIS freshmen soccer players and friends for volunteering their time to paint this wonderful map on our Iles playground!! As students jump from country to country, they will be reminded of our "place" in the world and how interconnected we all are.

The middle school students had a wonderful time camping at Jim Edgar Panther Creek. They fished, kayaked, canoed, ate smores and marshmallows and told jokes and stories around the campfire. A great time was had by all!

It was so nice to see so many happy faces this morning! This was Iles' first day as an International Baccalaureate authorized World School. We had a great start to what we are sure will be another great year!

Ms. Kayla was the winner of the Iles Celebrates! Principal for the Day drawing and put in a busy day on Friday, June 3. She started the morning with distributing birthday pencils and awards during the morning assembly. At noon she was busy making sure the playground was safe.

Iles teachers met Wednesday, May 25 after school with Karen Thompson to begin learning how to use their new iPad2s. The Iles teachers want to thank all of the students, parents, and friends of Iles for donating nearly $10,000 to make it possible for an iPad2 to be in every classroom at Iles School...

Despite the weather, students at Iles school enjoyed a wonderful Fun Fest day full of physical education activities and fun. There was tug of war, Norwegian skis, relay races, parachute games, soccer, hockey, football, Chinese Chopstick Relay, and so much more.

The third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh grade Iles Band students, under the direction of Dia Langellier, gave a wonderful concert on Tuesday May 10, 2011. Mrs. Langelleir and her band students showcased the many talented students at Iles.

On Thursday April 28 Iles families were invited and encouraged to attend the Iles Family Night, This was a wonderful opportunity to look at your health and at math from a different perspective while celebrating our CATCH affiliation. These are some of the photos from this wonderful event.

Iles was very fortunate this past Thursday and Friday to host fourteen middle school and high school teachers from Dalian in China. The teachers are all English teachers in China and are here to observe teaching methods and strategies in American schools.

With the help of Dr. Randy Martin and Dr. Frank Mikkel, students learned about the heart and how blood flows through the body. The AP Biology students of Ms. Cathy Tuner at Springfield High School helped the third grade students with this hands-on lesson.

The work of Jason, Allison, Thomas and Kendall was beautifully framed by RMD Gallery and highlighted at the Art Stars Reception on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.

Mrs. Bauer is named the 2009 Educator of the Year. Her students help her celebrate the event with "Congratulations Cookies" on a stick.

Friday morning, April 24, Iles third grade students worked with Mrs. Cathy Turner's biology students from Springfield High School to dissect sheep hearts. The students were lead by Dr. Frank Mikell of the Prairie Heart Institute and Dr. Randy Martin, cardiologist.

Mrs. Bauer is one of five finalists from District 186 for the 2009 Horace Mann Teacher of the Year award. Congratulations Mrs. Bauer! Iles School is proud of you.

Mr. Robert Marcy, Art Specialist at Iles School, selected work produced by Joseph and Mikeona to represent the fine artists at Iles School in the RMD Gallery Art Stars 2009. Mikeona received the City of Springfield Award presented by Ms. Sheila Stocks-Smith.

We now welcome a second computer lab to Iles School! We are ever grateful to those families, faculty, and friends for their generous donations making this new addition possible.

Students at Iles are enjoying the wonderful opportunity of working with Nigerian Artist, Ibiyinka Olufemi Alao. It is an exciting way, through the arts, of bringing a more global understanding of the world in which we live.

The Iles 4th grade was privileged to attend the unveiling of the new Abraham Lincoln stamps by the US Post Office at the Old State Capitol. These stamps will be available on February 9, 2009, and the first issue will be Springfield, Illinois!

Ms. Shotwell's 5th grade class spoke with Mr. Lincoln and IL State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias at the Abraham Lincoln Museum to unveil the new $5 bill on March 13. Mrs.

THANK YOU VULCAN MATERIALS COMPANY! While visiting Vulcan Materials on October 29, Iles Fifth Grade students learned first-hand how miners remove aggregates from the earth.

Dr. Walter Minton, Mayor Davlin, Mrs. Erin Conley, and Ms. Sheila Stocks-Smith along with the Iles Staff had warm smiles to welcome the Iles parents and students back to school.

On December 19, 2006 students in Mrs. Smith and Ms. Shotwell's classes demonstrated their inventions to family members and friends. Students were required to apply for a patent, develop a business and marketing plan for their product, create a model and sell the need of the product to others.

Families and friends met together on Saturday evening, October 21 at Springfield High School Commons to celebrate the diversity of Iles School. The evening was filled with delicious ethnic food, entertainment, items to auction, and activities for children.

On October 12 families came to Iles School to buy books at the PTO Book Fair and to learn about nutritious snacks and fun physical activities. Students shared what they have learned with their parents and siblings.

ILES ALUMNI GATHERING -- MAY 25, 2006 We want to thank the Elijah Iles House Foundation for hosting the Iles Alumni Gathering on May 25. Former Iles students and parents had a great time renewing old friendships and learning about the Elijah Iles house.
