Dear Parents,

JMS is filled with excitement during the months of February and March. I am asking for your participation and continued support during this time. In February students, staff and parents are being asked to take the 5 Essential Survey. You are probably wondering what this is and why you need to participate. JMS wants you to know that your student and your opinion is very important to us. The 5 Essential survey is a state survey that is given to students in 6th through 12th grade, teachers that teach pre-kindergarten through 12th grade and parents across the state. All responses are anonymous and are focused on individual schools' learning conditions and environment. The survey is designed to inform school improvement by measuring change and providing individualized reports for each school. A letter will be sent home with your student today and information is posted on the JMS website.

Also, in February we will be celebrating Black History! We are hosting a variety of events throughout the month for your child and you to participate in and learn more about the contributions of African Americans. So check out the school calendar and flyers will be sent listing the scheduled events!

March brings PARCC- The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers. This assessment is new and is replacing the ISAT test that has been taken in past years. All middle school students enrolled in English/ Language Arts and Mathematics will take the new test. This assessment is a high quality online assessment for Mathematics and English Language Arts/ Literacy that will give teachers, students, parents and schools information about how students are on track in their learning relative to the Illinois Learning Standards, and for success after high school in college and careers. It will also guide teachers in adjusting learning to help meet individual student's needs. A letter will be sent home soon.

Feel free to contact the school with any questions you may have. Again, please take the time to explore the school's website. It is filled with information just for you. JMS is moving forward and with your help will continue to do so!!
