The 8th Grade AVID classes were invited and attended the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus’ Second Annual Civic Engagement Youth Day. Students participated in school spirit contest and spoke about civic experiences that they have participated in this past year. Jefferson Middle School students shared their experiences with the IDOT Black History Month Celebration and spoke about African Americans who exercised their civic duty and changed the face of the nation. The purpose of the day was to help students understand the importance of working together to make a difference in the civil life of our communities.
Jefferson Middle School joined schools from Chicago and Peoria in this event. Students were treated to lunch at the fair grounds and enjoyed the day’s events.
