Are you interested in being a positive role model to students in District 186? Volunteering for the Mentors Committed to Excellence program can enrich your life as well as the life of a student.
Who can be a mentor? You must be at least 18 years old. You must be willing to make a commitment to remain with your student for one full school year.
What will I do as a mentor? You will visit with your student at his or her school during the school day. You will be expected to spend around 1 hour a week with your student. The activities could include having lunch together, reading a book together, talking about sports, or just listening to your student.
How do I get started? You will need to complete an application and submit to a background check. Make sure this program will not interfere with your employment. You will be expected to attend a mentor training and attend follow-up trainings. Most importantly, you must consistently attend the mentoring sessions and honor your commitment of one entire year to your student.
