TODAY IN HISTORY
On this day in 1915, the British ocean liner Lusitania was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland. The Germans attacked the ship even though there were over 2,000 civilian men, women and children aboard. 1,198 passengers and crew died. Germany's reason for attacking the ship was that the Lusitania was carrying ammunition.
