On this day in 1865, Abraham Lincoln was buried in Springfield, Illinois which was his hometown. His funeral train traveled through 180 cities and 7 states before arriving in Springfield.

8th grade students ~ Your Lincoln Land Community College scholarship application has been extended to Friday. Your parents can still come to the Guidance Office and obtain an application. Remember, all applications must be turned in by Friday, May 7th.
DRESS CODE REMINDERS
• No water bottles in classrooms.
• Students must wear uniform pants appropriately. No sagging and no rolled up pant legs!
• Capri pants and shorts may now be worn!
• LHS Cheerleading Tryouts ~ If you are interested in trying out for cheerleading at Lanphier High School, pre-tryout cheer clinics are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, May 6th & 7th, from 5:30-7:30PM at LHS in the main gym. • Springfield Youth Football League ~ Registration for tackle football for kindergarten through 8th grade will take place:
~ Saturday, May 15th from 9AM-1PM at Bank of Springfield Building - 9th & Madison
You must pay the $85 registration fee at time of registration. Checks should be made payable to SYF. Also, bring a copy of the player's birth certificate that the league can keep. 8TH GRADE DANCE
The annual 8th grade dance will be held on Friday, May 7th from 5:30-8PM and the theme will be --- RETRO! There will be a hot dog dinner from 5:30-6PM. The dance will be held from 6-8PM. Only current JMS 8th grade students are invited. If you would like to dress up, that would be GREAT! Make sure you follow the District dress code policy — no spaghetti straps, no strapless, etc. There will be a raffle. The grand prize will be a flat-screen TV!
PAWS FOR READING
Are you ready for a challenge? The teachers and staff are challenging the students to beat them in minutes read from now until the end of the school year. Each grade is competing against the teachers/staff for most minutes read. Any reading will count — in school or out! Language Arts teachers have sheets to keep track of your minutes. Start your reading today!
STUDENT VS STAFF VOLLEYBALL GAME
The student vs staff volleyball game will be played on Friday afternoon. Keep earning those PRIDE cards in order to try to win seats in the VIP section and also win FREE pizza.
END OF THE YEAR TRIPS
Don't forget the end of the year trips! 6th & 7th graders will be going to Knight's Action Park on May 24th and 8th grade students will be going to 6 Flags on May 21st. In order to be eligible to go on either trip, you must be passing all of your classes, your attendance must be at least 91%, and you may not have any suspensions during 4th quarter.
Please turn in your reservations as soon as possible!
TALENT SHOW PARTICIPANTS
Any student who made it into the talent show needs to be practicing their acts at home. If you need help finding music for your act, come see Mrs. Orama sometime this week.
SHIRTS ON FRIDAYS
Every Friday until the end of the school year, 8th grade students may wear their 8th grade t-shirts. All other students may wear their JMS jaguar spirit shirts. The shirts cannot be altered in any way — no cutting and tying, no removal of sleeves, no writing added. You will still be expected to wear uniform pants. If you wish to purchase a spirit shirt, see Ms. Stewart in room 202.
Yearbooks are in!! If you ordered one, you can pick it up from Ms. J-C in room 115. There are still a few left. Purchase yours today for $22.
STUDENT VIDEO CONTEST
The Student Film Club is announcing its 2nd annual student video contest.
Deadline: Monday, May 10th by 4PM
Who: All central Illinois middle & high school students
Judge: Student Film Club members & some guests
Prize: 1st place ~ $150 — 2nd place ~ $75 — 3rd place ~ $25
