TODAY IN HISTORY
On this day in 1950, the comic strip "Peanuts" was published for the time in seven U.S. newspapers. Charles Schultz was the creator of "Peanuts." There were only 3 characters in the beginning ~ Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty, & Shermy.
12:27PM bell is the 7th grade tardy bell.
12:30PM bell is the dismissal bell for 8th grade to go to lunch. Please do not dismiss your students before this bell rings.

If you want to continue having chips and fruit roll-ups, please eat them in the cafeteria. Do not take them outside or into the hallways.
Please remember to clean up your eating area and push in your chair at your table. You will be asked to choose an outside activity. Do not go past the sidewalks. Once you reenter the building, use your inside voices because other students are in class.
Take your jackets with you to the cafeteria. You will not be allowed to go back to your locker after you eat before you go outside.
At JMS, adults are in charge. When you have a guest teacher, you are expected to be respectful and helpful. Disrespect will not be tolerated.
STUDENT OF THE MONTH LUNCH
The Student of the Month Lunch will be held on Friday, October 9th during regular lunch shifts.
• 6th Grade Boys Basketball ~ Tryouts will be today right after school until 5PM. Meet in the gym immediately after school and be dressed in your gym clothes. You may not tryout in your school uniform. Be picked up promptly at 5PM or you may ride the activity bus.
TWILIGHT BOWLING FOR TECHNOLOGY
It's time for Jefferson's first Twilight Bowl for Technology of the school year! Come celebrate no school on Columbus Day by staying up late and bowling the night before.
When: Sunday, October 11th from 9-11PM
Where: Laketown Lanes
Cost: $15 gets you 2 hours of bowling fun and shoe rental
Form a team ahead of time or just show up and we'll make sure you get on a lane. Come have fun, challenge your teachers, and support technology at JMS!
7TH GRADE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
There will be a 7th grade Executive Committee meeting today during lunch in room 206. Bring your lunch and sign in.
• All 6th grade students need to have a physical in order to remain in school.
The JMS School Store is open! Come to the main lobby before school and purchase school supplies.
SNACK ATTACK STORE
The Snack Attack Store is in the main lobby for after school before you board the buses. Each snack will cost $1.
We want students to be here every day! JMS needs to have at least 92% attendance everyday. We will have fun activities for those who attain a 95% attendance rate. Currently we have 166 students with perfect attendance — 68 6th, 61 7th, & 37 8th! Keep up the good attendance!

Yesterday was Spirit Day for all grades. All students were encouraged to wear their yellow JMS Jaguar t-shirts. 6th grade had 19% of the students in yellow shirts; 7th grade had 22% in yellow shirts; and 8th grade had 28% in yellow shirts. The 8th grade will be awarded the prize of 10 minutes of extra recess at lunch on Monday. Keep showing that Jaguar PRIDE!
In order to cut down on the number of students arriving tardy to class, we will begin having hallway sweeps this week. Once the tardy bell has rung, if you are not in class, you will be swept and consequences will be issued.
Fall picture day is Thursday, October 8th. Students ~ You must wear your school uniform!
If you would like to purchase a yearbook from the 2008-2009 school year, see Ms. J-C in room 115. Bargain cost of $15!
Just a reminder ~ After today you will not be allowed to wear shorts or capris. Also, you may not wear a long-sleeved shirt under your short-sleeved uniform shirt. Girls ~ You may not tie your shirt in the back!
