TODAY IN HISTORY
On this day in 1513, Vasco Nunez de Balboa became the first European to see the Pacific Ocean. He wrongly thought he was the first person in the world to discover that ocean. He called it the South Sea & claimed it in the name of the King of Spain.

LUNCH BELLS
12:27PM bell is the 7th grade tardy bell.
12:30PM bell is the dismissal bell for 8th grade to go to lunch. Please do not dismiss your students before this bell rings.

Monday's Breakfast: Poptarts

Please remember to clean up your eating area and push in your chair at your table. You will be asked to choose an outside activity. Do not go past the sidewalks. Once you reenter the building, use your inside voices because other students are in class.

STUDENT OF THE MONTH LUNCH
The Student of the Month Lunch will be held on Thursday, October 8th during regular lunch shifts.

PHYSICALS
• All 6th grade students need to have a physical in order to remain in school.

JMS SPIRIT CHALLENGE
The 8th grade is challenging all 7th & 6th grade students to a "Who Has More Spirit" day!

On October 1st, the grade level that comes to school with the highest percentage of yellow Jaguar t-shirts will be rewarded with an extra 10 minutes recess at lunch on October 2nd.

Shirts will be sold for $12 each at lunch or see Ms. Stewart in room 202.

SCHOOL STORE
The JMS School Store is open! Come to the main lobby before school and purchase school supplies.

SNACK ATTACK STORE
The Snack Attack Store is in the main lobby for after school before you board the buses. Each snack will cost $1.

ATTENDANCE REPORT
We want students to be here every day! JMS needs to have at least 92% attendance everyday. We will have fun activities for those who attain a 95% attendance rate. Currently we have 202 students with perfect attendance — 75 6th, 77 7th, & 50 8th! Keep up the good attendance!

7th Grade ~ 17 absent - 157 present - 90%
8th Grade ~ 32 absent - 152 present - 83%

HALLWAY SWEEPS
In order to cut down on the number of students arriving tardy to class, we will begin having hallway sweeps this week. Once the tardy bell has rung, if you are not in class, you will be swept. The consequences are:
1st Sweep ~ warning & a phone call to your parents
2nd Sweep ~ after-school detention & a phone call to your parents
3rd Sweep ~ parent conference, all-day buddy room, & after-school detention

PICTURE DAY
Fall picture day is Thursday, October 8th. Everyone must wear your school uniform.

YEARBOOKS
If you would like to purchase a yearbook from the 2008-2009 school year, see Ms. J-C in room 115. Bargain cost of $15!

DRESS CODE
Just a reminder ~ After Wednesday, September 30th you will not be allowed to wear shorts or capris. Also, you may not wear a long-sleeved shirt under your short-sleeved uniform shirt.
