TODAY IN HISTORY
On this day in 1962, the first coast-to-coast telecast by satellite took place. Signals from California were bounced off Echo 1 — a communications satellite — and were received in Massachusetts.

CAFETERIA
Main Entree: Mini Corn Dogs; French Fries; Corn
Monday's Breakfast: Yogurt & Cereal

6th graders are not to leave the cafeteria until the clock above the A - K sign reads 12:10PM. If behavior does not improve, we will start dismissing students by tables.

You must eat or drink all food before you leave the cafeteria. Nothing is allowed outside! Clean up after yourself in the cafeteria.

AVID APPLICATIONS
All AVID applications are due this week to Mrs. Gordy.

8th grade girls ~ 8th grade girls going to Southeast who are interested in playing basketball will have the opportunity to meet with the SE coach next week. A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28th at 11AM.

ATTENDANCE COMPETITION
Attendance is important for success! We are starting an attendance motivation. Every student who has perfect attendance for the rest of the week will have their name placed in a drawing for a free Lifetouch Spring picture packet. 5 names will be drawn. This is a $50 value! Remember ~ you must be here in order to win!

DISTRICT 186 STUDENT VIDEO CONTEST
How would you like to win $300? Here's how ~ enter the District 186 Student Video Contest. Use your own time, equipment, and ideas to make a movie and enter the contest. See Mrs. Snyder for details if you are interested.

SPRING DANCE
Our spring dance will be held today after school from 2:30-4PM. Admission is $3. Ticket will be sold during lunch periods. There will be an activity bus.

YMCA DAY CAMP
If you are interested in attending the YMCA Day Camp this summer, please go to the main office for more information.

MUSIC & ART FESTIVAL 2009
Where: Feitshans Academy
When: Saturday, April 25th from 11AM-7PM
Cost: $5 for advanced tickets for 6th grade age and up

Come enjoy 3 stages of live bands; hands-on art & music workshops; silent art auctions; live art demos; and much, much more!

CHICAGO STEAM SEMI-PRO BASKETBALL
The Chicago Steam Semio-Pro basketball team will be holding a youth camp at Lanphier High School on Saturday, April 25th from 1-3:30PM. There is a $25 fee and the camp is for boys and girls ages 8-15. Pre-registration is required. Contact Ron Hicks at (312)553-9707 or email him at hicksron9@aol.com

SPFLD JFL
To all past and future JFL players, the Springfield Junior Football League is holding registration starting this Saturday, April 25th from 11AM-4PM at Kick's, 2744 S. 6th Street. Students going into the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in 2009-2010 school year are eligible. Coaches and staff will be on site to answer any questions for the coming season.

DRESS CODE reminder ~ Shorts and capris may not be worn until May 1st! Also, skinny black jeans are not acceptable. No denim is allowed.

You may not wear long-sleeved shirts under your uniform polo. No jackets are to be worn in the classrooms. No string bags or purses should be carried into classrooms. Sagging pants will not be tolerated!

If you purchase an 8th grade t-shirt, you may wear it through the end of the school year on Friday's only. If you decorate your 8th grade t-shirt or have others sign your shirt, you will NOT be allowed to wear it.

In addition, sweatshirts may not be worn half-on, half-off. If you choose to wear a sweatshirt, you must have it on all the way.

Nose piercings are not allowed in District 186 schools. You may not wear a nose ring, a clear spacer, or a bar, or wear a band-aid to cover the piercing. If you refuse to remove the nose ring, you will be written up, sent to the office and sent home.

END OF THE YEAR TRIPS
Please remember ~ there are requirements for you to be eligible for the end of the year trips to Six Flags or Knight's Action Park.

Requirements:
1. GRADES: passing all classes for 4th quarter
2. ATTENDANCE: 90% attendance for the school year
3. BEHAVIOR: no suspensions during 4th quarter

FUN DAY
Fun Day will be held Friday, May 15th. More information will be posted in the next few days!

HALLWAY SWEEPS
Hallway sweeps will continue. Be sure to get to class on time and be in your seat before the tardy bell rings.

PBIS/BIST NEWS
• Keep earning those PRIDE cards and turning them in so you will be eligible for the next Out of the Blue activity.
• Our next Out of the Blue day will be Friday. In honor of Earth Week and Earth Day, we will be planting a tree!

GUEST TEACHERS
Whenever you have a guest teacher, you are to show him/her the same respect as you would your regular teacher. The guest teacher knows the BIST procedures. If you are asked to go to the Safe Seat, you must move to the Safe Seat. If you must be removed from the classroom, you will be escorted to room 109 and issued two after-school detentions.
