On this day in 1980, Arman Hammer paid over $5,000,000 for a notebook that contained writings by the artist Leonardo da Vinci. The manuscript was written around 1508. The text was written in brown ink and chalk and was read from right to left.

Please remember to take a jacket with you to lunch. It is getting cold outside and you are not allowed to go back to your locker after you eat.
You must eat or drink all snacks before you leave the cafeteria. Nothing is allowed outside! Clean up after yourself in the cafeteria.
Students ~ You must sit on the correct side of the cafeteria. Lunch detentions will be given if you are on the wrong side!
When we have outside days during the winter months, please leave the snow and ice on the ground. If you choose to throw snow, you will receive an after-school detention. Leave the snow on the ground!
When we have an inside lunch day, you must be quiet in the halls. Please be respectful and considerate of those who are in class at that time.
COATS & DOORS
All coats, gloves and hats must be removed upon entering the building and must be stored in your locker. You may go to your locker before school, before and after lunch, and after school.
You must enter the building through the proper door. 6th grade students enter through the cafeteria doors. 7th grade students enter through the main lobby doors. 8th grade students enter through the gym lobby doors. Please follow the proper procedure!
Hallway sweeps will continue. Be sure to get to class on time and be in your seat before the tardy bell rings.
Yearbooks are on sale. The cost is $23. Bring a check made payable to Jefferson Middle School or cash to Mr. Battles in the main office to place your order.
• 7th/8th grade basketball ~ turn in your uniforms as soon as possible: Kala W., Shirley J., Aryanna W., Meaghen M., Megan G., Hannah B., Samantha S., Kyerianna W., and Brionna T.
• 7th & 8th grade volleyball ~ practice today from 2:30-5PM. There will be an activity bus.
Our winter dance will be held Friday, December 19th from 2:30-4PM.
• Our food drive continues! So far, the top 3 classes are Mrs. Beebe's with 78 items, Mrs. Huffman's with 63 items, and Ms. Nicholas's with 50 items. You have until Monday, December 15th to try and top those classes!
• Starting Monday, Beta Club will sell Candy Grams in the lobby during all lunch shifts next week. Send a friend a candy gram for 25¢.
STUDENT OF THE MONTH LUNCH
The Student of the Month Lunch will be held today during your lunch period. Congratulations to those chosen!
It is very important that you come to school everyday! Come to school and be prepared to learn each and every day of the school year. We need to maintain at least a 90% attendance rate for meeting AYP.

SISTER CITIES APPLICATION
The Sister Cities Association of Springfield is offering a unique travel opportunity to Japan for any student who will be 14 years old by September 1, 2009. There is an informational meeting at Lincoln Library on Tuesday, December 9th at 7PM for interested individuals. Applications are being accepted now. The application deadline is February 28, 2009. See Mrs. Nelson for more information.
GIFT OF READING CAMPAIGN
The Gift of Reading Campaign, which donates books to K-2 grade students this holiday season, is currently happening and comes to a close on December 12th. Please bring new books that K-2 graders would enjoy reading. Bring the books to the main office and put them in the blue bin.
Don't forget to turn in your PRIDE cards for prizes!
Whenever you have a guest teacher, you are to show him/her the same respect as you would your regular teacher. The guest teacher knows the BIST procedures. If you are asked to go to the Safe Seat, you must move to the Safe Seat. If you must be removed from the classroom, you will be escorted to room 109 and issued two after-school detentions.
