TODAY IN HISTORY
On this day in 1793, the first daily newspaper in New York City was founded by Noah Webster. The name of the paper was The American Minerva.

Please pay all charges!

Please remember to take a jacket with you to lunch. It is getting cold outside and you are not allowed to go back to your locker after you eat.

You must eat or drink all snacks before you leave the cafeteria. Nothing is allowed outside! Clean up after yourself in the cafeteria.

Students ~ You must sit on the correct side of the cafeteria. Lunch detentions will be given if you are on the wrong side!

LUNCH BEHAVIOR
When we have outside days during the winter months, please leave the snow and ice on the ground. If you choose to throw snow, you will receive an after-school detention. Leave the snow on the ground!

When we have an inside lunch day, you must be quiet in the halls. Please be respectful and considerate of those who are in class at that time.

COATS & DOORS
All coats, gloves and hats must be removed upon entering the building and must be stored in your locker. You may go to your locker before school, before and after lunch, and after school.

You must enter the building through the proper door. 6th grade students enter through the cafeteria doors. 7th grade students enter through the main lobby doors. 8th grade students enter through the gym lobby doors. Please follow the proper procedure!

HALLWAY SWEEPS
Hallway sweeps will continue. Be sure to get to class on time and be in your seat before the tardy bell rings.

YEARBOOKS
Yearbooks are on sale. The cost is $23. Bring a check made payable to Jefferson Middle School or cash to Mr. Battles in the main office to place your order.

SPORTS NEWS
7th/8th grade volleyball ~ practice today after school from 2:30-4PM

Cheerleaders ~ practice today from 2:30-4:15PM; meet in room 117 immediately after school

PARENT LAPTOP MEETING
There will be an informational parent laptop meeting tonight from 5:30-6:30PM at Lincoln Magnet School. If you are interested in qualifying for taking home your laptop, your parent/guardian must attend this meeting.

BETA CLUB
Please support the Salvation Army Canned Food Drive! Win a pizza party for your class! The class that brings in the most food per student wins. Start bringing your canned goods and non-perishable items today. Take them to your 1st hour teacher unless you have a 1st hour elective class. We will be accepting canned goods through December 15th.

STUDENT OF THE MONTH LUNCH
The Student of the Month Lunch will be held on Friday during your lunch period. Congratulations to those chosen!

ATTENDANCE
It is very important that you come to school everyday! Come to school and be prepared to learn each and every day of the school year. We need to maintain at least a 90% attendance rate for meeting AYP.

DECEMBER SCHWANS ORDER
All orders are due today! Turn them in to Mrs. Snyder in room 116 by the end of the day. Delivery will be Thursday, December 11th. Come to room 116 if you need a catalog.

WEB LEADER MEETING
There will be a meeting for all WEB Leaders today after school from 2:30-4PM. Come to room 210 immediately after school. Go to your locker first, then directly to room 210. There will be a 4PM activity bus.

NACHO SALE
Nachos will be sold during all lunch shifts today for the low price of $1!

ART STUDENTS
All 6th grade students who took Art 1st quarter should come and pick up their artwork after school in room 118. If your work was displayed, it is down and ready to pick up now.

SISTER CITIES APPLICATION
The Sister Cities Association of Springfield is offering a unique travel opportunity to Japan for any student who will be 14 years old by September 1, 2009. There is an informational meeting at Lincoln Library on Tuesday, December 9th at 7PM for interested individuals. Applications are being accepted now. The application deadline is February 28, 2009. See Mrs. Nelson for more information.

GIFT OF READING CAMPAIGN
The Gift of Reading Campaign, which donates books to K-2 grade students this holiday season, is currently happening and comes to a close on December 12th. Please bring new books that K-2 graders would enjoy reading. Bring the books to the main office and put them in the blue bin.

PBIS/BIST NEWS
Don't forget to turn in your PRIDE cards for prizes!

GUEST TEACHERS
Whenever you have a guest teacher, you are to show him/her the same respect as you would your regular teacher. The guest teacher knows the BIST procedures. If you are asked to go to the Safe Seat, you must move to the Safe Seat. If you must be removed from the classroom, you will be escorted to room 109 and issued two after-school detentions.
