NO GUM IS ALLOWED AT SCHOOL!

COATS & DOORS
All coats, gloves and hats must be removed upon entering the building and must be stored in your locker. You may go to your locker before school, before and after lunch, and after school.

You must enter the building through the proper door. 6th grade students enter through the cafeteria doors. 7th grade students enter through the main lobby doors. 8th grade students enter through the gym lobby doors. Please follow the proper procedure!

HALLWAY SWEEPS
Hallway sweeps will continue. Be sure to get to class on time and be in your seat before the tardy bell rings.

TODAY IN HISTORY
On this day in 1982, Barney B. Clark became the first person to receive an artificial heart. The operation took 7 1/2 hours at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City. The surgical team was led by Dr. William DeVries. Clark lived for over 3 months with his artificial heart.

Please remember to take a jacket with you to lunch. It is getting cold outside and you are not allowed to go back to your locker after you eat.

You must eat or drink all snacks before you leave the cafeteria. Nothing is allowed outside! Clean up after yourself in the cafeteria.

Students ~ You must sit on the correct side of the cafeteria. Lunch detentions will be given if you are on the wrong side!

LUNCH BEHAVIOR
Today will be an outside day. If you choose to throw snow, you will receive an after-school detention. Leave the snow on the ground!

When we have an inside lunch day, you must be quiet in the halls. Please be respectful and considerate of those who are in class at that time.

YEARBOOKS
Yearbooks are on sale. The cost is $23. Bring a check made payable to Jefferson Middle School or cash to Mr. Battles in the main office to place your order.

SPORTS NEWS
7th/8th grade volleyball ~ Tryouts will be this week from 2:30-4PM. 7th grade will continue today. 8th grade will be Wednesday & Thursday. Friday's times will be announced later.

6th grade boys basketball ~ practice has been moved to tomorrow from 4-5PM

7th/8th grade boys basketball ~ game today at 4PM at JMS; all boys must stay after school with Coach Stapleton

7th/8th grade girls basketball ~ meet at FMS at 6:30PM tonight; bring both uniforms; any 7th grade girls not playing in the 8th grade regional should turn in their uniforms ASAP

BETA CLUB
Please support the Salvation Army Canned Food Drive! Win a pizza party for your class! The class that brings in the most food per student wins. Start bringing your canned goods and non-perishable items today. Take them to your 1st hour teacher unless you have a 1st hour elective class. We will be accepting canned goods through December 15th.

ATTENDANCE
It is very important that you come to school everyday! Come to school and be prepared to learn each and every day of the school year. We need to maintain at least a 90% attendance rate for meeting AYP.

DECEMBER SCHWANS ORDER
Monday December 8th, the December Schwans order is due. Delivery will be Thursday, December 11th. Come to room 116 if you need a catalog.

SISTER CITIES APPLICATION
The Sister Cities Association of Springfield is offering a unique travel opportunity to Japan for any student who will be 14 years old by September 1, 2009. There is an informational meeting at Lincoln Library on Tuesday, December 9th at 7PM for interested individuals. Applications are being accepted now. The application deadline is February 28, 2009. See Mrs. Nelson for more information.

PBIS/BIST NEWS
Don't forget to turn in your PRIDE cards for prizes!

GUEST TEACHERS
Whenever you have a guest teacher, you are to show him/her the same respect as you would your regular teacher. The guest teacher knows the BIST procedures. If you are asked to go to the Safe Seat, you must move to the Safe Seat. If you must be removed from the classroom, you will be escorted to room 109 and issued two after-school detentions.
