TODAY IN HISTORY
On this day in 1915, over 25,000 women marched in New York City demanding the right to vote. After much struggle, the 19th amendment to the US Constitution was finally ratified in 1920 granting women the right to vote.

Please remember to take a jacket with you to lunch. It is getting cold outside and you are not allowed to go back to your locker after you eat.
You must eat or drink all snacks before you leave the cafeteria. Nothing is allowed outside! Clean up after yourself in the cafeteria.
Students ~ You must sit on the correct side of the cafeteria. Lunch detentions will be given if you are on the wrong side!
PARENT MEETING FOR LAPTOPS
If you are in 7th or 8th grade and want to be eligible to take home your laptop starting November 3rd, your parent/guardian must attend a District laptop meeting. Our meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28th from 5:30-6:30PM. It will be held in our gym. This meeting is mandatory if you are going to take home your laptop at any time.
Students ~ If you have not turned in your emergency card, please return it as soon as possible to Mrs. Frye in room 110.
BUS EVACUATION DRILL
We will be conducting our annual bus evacuation drill today beginning at 9:30AM. Teachers ~ Please have your classes outside and ready to board the buses in accordance with the schedule that was sent out via email earlier this week.
BETA club has the school store in the front lobby before school starts each day.

• Congratulations to the 8th grade girls basketball team for their win over Washington Middle School. Takia F. had 6 points; Anteanna A., Imani A., Samantha S., & Tashionia T. had 2 points each; Kyeriana W. had 11 points; and Brionna T. had 15 points. Great job girls!
Yearbooks are on sale. The cost is $23. Bring a check made payable to Jefferson Middle School or cash to Mr. Battles in the main office to place your order.
END OF 1ST QUARTER
The end of first quarter is tomorrow and will be a 1:30PM dismissal. Make sure you've completed your assignments so those grades will reflect your good work!
Our PTC fundraiser is ongoing. The items are cookie dough, candles and butter braids. You must collect money at the time of ordering. Checks should be made payable to JMS PTC.
Tomorrow is our first Fun Day of the school year! There will be:
food — hot dogs, nachos, walking tacos, popcorn, & baked goods
games — spin the wheel, sucker pull, soda toss, soda walk, dance dance revolution, homerun derby, football throw, speed gun throw
6th grade: 8-9:12AM

Our first garage sale is scheduled for Saturday, November 1st from 8AM-1PM. Please ask your parents to donate working small appliances and gently used items such as books or clothes. This is a good time to come and shop for reduced price items. Parents can also rent a space with a table for $25.
RED RIBBON WEEK
Red Ribbon Week at JMS is going to be October 27th - October 31st. Listen to the announcements for future activities.
LA PETITE DELTA PROGRAM
The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is looking for 8th grade African American girls to participate in the 27th Annual La Petite Delta program. The program assists participants with social etiquette, career planning and developing life skills. See Mrs. Nelson or Mrs. Gordy for more information.
• Students ~ you should drop off your PE clothes in the locker room at 7:50 AM when you enter the building.
• Students who have PE 4th block need to put their uniforms back on at the end of class. You may not leave the gym for dismissal in your gym clothes.
• Students are not allowed on the stage! The expensive stage curtains are being damaged. Stay off the stage at all times!
It is very important that you come to school everyday! Come to school and be prepared to learn each and every day of the school year. We need to maintain at least a 90% attendance rate for meeting AYP.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be in our library during the week of October 27th-31st. Everyone will get an opportunity to browse and purchase items.
No passes should be issued during class time! If students are found in the hallway, they will be escorted back to your room.
Don't forget to turn in your PRIDE cards for prizes!
Whenever you have a guest teacher, you are to show him/her the same respect as you would your regular teacher. The guest teacher knows the BIST procedures. If you are asked to go to the Safe Seat, you must move to the Safe Seat. If you must be removed from the classroom, you will be escorted to room 109 and issued two after-school detentions.
