Middle schools are looking to minimize the social, emotional, and romantic distractions that naturally begin during early adolescence. Separating boys and girls can make for more comfortable classrooms, where both genders are more willing to take risks, speak up, contribute answers, express uncertainties, and ask questions.

Jefferson started a gender specific program during the 2007-2008 school year. For this school year, Jefferson is offering one all-girls and one all-boys class at each grade level.
