Law Enforcement Drill ("Hard Lock Down" Drill)

Sep 20, 2018 On Monday, September 24th, Laketown will have an all school "Hard Lock Down" Drill.  The Sangamon County Police and Springfield City Firemen will be present to oversee this drill.  If they see something we need to improve upon, they will share it with us right then, so we can fix it. Teachers help students prepare and practice for all of our different safety drills so that they know what to do in case of an emergency. READ MORE

A Visit with Danual Berkley: Author and Fireman

May 25, 2018 Laketown had a very special visitor this week!  Danual Berkley, who is an author and firefighter, and lives in Springfield, IL,  came to see us on Tuesday. He talked to us about his job as a fireman and reminded us of safety rules to follow in case of a fire or other accident.  Then he took time to talk to us about being an author and the book he wrote, Davy's Pirate Ship Adventure. We even got some signed copies of his book for our school. What a fun assembly!

Goodbye Baby Chicks!

May 21, 2018 Mrs. Finch's and Mrs. Madonia's kindergarten classes had a fun time hatching eggs in their classrooms. Last Thursday, Brad from Bomke's Farm came to pick up our new little friends and take them back to the farm. He even brought Patch, an 8 week old baby goat to visit. All of our classes went outside to visit with them before they left.

Food & Hygiene Drive for Kumler Ministries

May 21, 2018 To kick off our month of kindness for May, Laketown students collected food and hygiene goods for the first two weeks of May. Our theme was to spread kindness by helping others. We decided to have a 'Friendly Competition' between the two hallways (K-2 and 3-5) on who could collect the most goods: “The Battle of the Wings”. Each item was worth 1 point. READ MORE

Grandparents Day Breakfast

Sep 15, 2017 We appreciate so many of our students' grandparents coming to our annual Grandparent Day Breakfast at Laketown last Friday, September 8th.  Mr. Rhinehouse, our Parent Educator,  planned a delicious breakfast and some fun activities for all.

Apr 26, 2017 We would like to congratulate 7 of our Laketown students on being winners in this year's CWLP Water Conservation Poster Contest: Jacey, Aliyah, Jaylie, Cindy, Kamryn, Zyeire and Isaiah. Our students created their own individual posters in support of water conservation, and 7 of our students' posters were chosen as the winners.  CWLP will sponsor a pizza party at our school for these 7 students.

Laketown's Girls on the Run

Apr 24, 2017 If you watched this morning's Channel 20 News, you probably saw some very familiar faces!  Miss Bolt, our School Social Worker, and two of our 5th grade girls were invited to be guest stars, along with the 'Girls on the Run' marketing  manager.  They talked about the awesome afterschool 'Girls on the Run' program that Laketown is a part of, along with many other schools.
