School Hours and Before and After Procedures

School Hours and Before & After School Procedures

The school day begins at 9:00 a.m. with regular dismissal being at 3:30 p.m. Special Education class hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Forty-five (45) minutes away from class, whether excused or not, will constitute a half-day absence for students in 2nd – 5th grades. Kindergarten and 1st grade students are allowed one hour and forty-five minutes absence.

No children are to arrive at school before 8:40 a.m. unless they are enrolled in the SCOPE program. We are unable to accept responsibility for your children until this time when staff members are available to supervise students.

All parents transporting students by automobile are asked to PLEASE NOT use the Lee Street entrance as a pick-up and/or drop-off location. Only the Sherman Street entrance should be used for this purpose. The Lee Street entrance must be kept open and accessible for school buses.

If you need to visit the school or it becomes necessary for you to pick up your child(ren) during the school day for emergency purposes (i.e. illness, emergencies, doctor appointments, etc.), you may use the Lee Street entrance. However, please do not block the front entrance or the driveway.

Cars are never to be driven on the school grounds. This causes a very hazardous situation for all students.

Breakfast will be available each morning from 8:40 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Students must go to the cafeteria prior to going outside to play in order to be served breakfast.

When the weather does not permit students to go outside before school, they will assemble in the gym until being dismissed to go to their classrooms by the teacher on duty.

Students will need written permission to stay inside because of illness and/or other reasons and will be dismissed when the first bell rings. No student shall be allowed in the hallways or classrooms without special permission from their teacher or the principal.

Any student not in his or her classroom by 9:00 a.m. is considered to be tardy. They must report to the school office and obtain a tardy pass before going to their classroom. Tardy students need to be signed in by the adult bringing them to school. Chronic tardiness may result in a referral to the Regional Office of Education’s Truancy department.
