Making the Grade Conferencing 2012-2013
Lanphier High School
What is Making the Grade?
Making the Grade Conferencing is a way for the members of the community to reach out to our young people and encourage them to pursue academic excellence.
How does Making the Grade Conferencing work?
During this day-long event, community volunteers visit the school to meet with students for one-on-one sessions to review their most recent progress report. During a 5-10 minute session with each student, volunteers review the student’s grades and discuss issues such as homework, work ethic, issues in the classroom, and planning for the future.
Why is Making the Grade Conferencing important?
This provides students with a way to help them reflect on their academic performance and motivate them for the rest of the quarter; this also acts as an intervention system for students to get any help they may need. Past conferences have helped identify students who may need tutoring, social support, or other types of assistance to help them reach their utmost potential. Our goal is to make sure that no student gets left behind in their schoolwork or “falls through the cracks” of Lanphier’s support systems.
How can I help?
You can volunteer! Volunteers typically meet with 3-6 students in a half-hour time slot, and can sign up for any number of time slots ranging from half an hour to the entire day. This event takes place at Lanphier High School during normal school hours.
We currently have four scheduled dates for Making the Grade Conferencing events at Lanphier for the 2012-2013 school year:
Wednesday, October 3, 2012
Friday, November 30, 2012
Friday, February 22, 2013
Friday, May 3, 2013
During the 2011-2012 school year, our goal was to meet with every 9th- and 11th- grade Lanphier student during a conferencing day. Our goal this year is to host one-on-one meetings for every Lanphier student during each conferencing day. In order to meet our expansion goal, we need YOUR help!
