Springfield Urban League 2014 HBCU College Tour -- Registration Deadline Extended through March 17, 2014

Mar 17, 2014 The Springfield Urban League 2014 HBCU College Tour is scheduled to take place during spring break and is intended to provide middle and high school students with the academic and career programs offered by Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The trip is designed to stimulate students’ awareness regarding the academic, financial, social, and emotional support services provided by HBCUs. READ MORE

EXPLORER POST 1897

Oct 3, 2013 EXPLORE multiple areas of healthcare including nursing, pharmacy,rehabilitation, radiology, respiratory therapy, laboratory, cardiology and many more through the Memorial Medical Center Explorer Post. The "First Nighter" is scheduled for Oct. 10, 2013 at 6:00p.m. in the Carpenter Conference Center, 224 W. Carpenter. Participation fee is $15.

Golden Apple Scholars -- Accepting Nominations for the Class of 2014

Apr 26, 2013 Beginning in April of their junior year, and continuing through November 1st of their senior year, any Illinois resident who is interested in a teaching career can apply to be a Golden Apple scholar. Students may be self-nominated or nominated by a teacher, counselor, principal, or non-family member adult. The nominated junior should be scheduled to graduate by June of their senior year and should have an expressed desire to teach in an Illinois School of need. READ MORE

Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT)

Sep 27, 2010 The PSAT is administered in each year in October, and it is an abbreviated form of the SAT. It measures critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing skills and can be used as an indicator of future success on the SAT. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation uses the PSAT results as an initial screening for those who wish to be considered for National Merit recognition. READ MORE

PSAE Testing April 2010

Jan 27, 2010 All eleventh graders will be taking the PSAE on April 27 and 28, 2011 at LHS. Taking this test is a graduation requirement according to the State of Illinois. Testing will take place in the morning, and students will attend normal afternoon classes. Day 1 (April 27) test is the ACT. Day 2 (April 28) test is the WorkKeys and ISBE created science test. Pizza Party Winners

Nov 29, 2009 Congratulations to the following houses for exceptional attendance on testing day, November 19th: Ninth grade RAVEN house, with 84% attendance Tenth grade PHOENIX house, with 89% attendance Eleventh grade HAWK house, with 87% attendance Twelfth grade HAWK house, with 59% attendance Pizza party details will follow soon. You must have your ID to verify name, grade, and house in order to attend the party, and you must have been in attendance ALL DAY on November 19.

EXPLORE, PLAN, and ACT PREP Testing

Nov 17, 2009 All 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will be testing on Thursday, November 19. The EXPLORE and PLAN tests are short versions of the ACT. Research shows that students who take these exams perform better on their ACT test. The ACT PREP test is an opportunity for 11th graders to practice before the PSAE in April. The PSAE contains an ACT test along with a WorkKeys exam. Remember, all students are required to take the PSAE in order to graduate from any Illinois high school. READ MORE
