A sculpture workshop consisting of two sessions was held on February 27th and 28th. The workshop was made possible through a generous grant from the Springfield Public Schools Foundation. The workshop was taught by John Crisp, Jr.
The students worked in the first session creating their sculpture from clay. Each student was able to make a basic bowl with their own added design and/or something of their own imagination. Students sculpted bowls, plaques, elephants, cats, and people. They learned to sculpt by making the clay the correct thickness, joining clay parts together, and utilizing large paper clips as wall hangers.
The second session involved painting the sculpture and setting it with acyclic spray. Painting was a learning experience by creating colors from the primary color group. Mixing of paint was a great opportunity to make some very bright and interesting colors. The students created beautiful clay art work.
