Starting in February 2012, Lawrence Education Center’s sewing teacher, Mrs. Defend, will provide a series of workshops. These workshops will offer hands on sewing activities, which will engage the students in creating items that will be given to community organizations. Projects will include creating holiday stockings for soldiers, blankets for NICU babies, and couch pillows for Habitat for Humanity’s newest homeowners. Once a week, Mrs. Defend will assist students in learning how to use a sewing machine, thread needles, create hand stitching, and follow the patterns needed to complete the community service project. Students will also be able to use their newly acquired sewing skills to make and keep a project during a special class every month.

The activities will be offered on the following Thursdays during 4th, 5th, and 6th hour (12:30-3:00pm) in Room 209:

February 2, 9, 10, 16, 20
March 15, 22, 29
April 12, 19, 26

For more information see Mrs. Ulm in Room 203.
