On Tuesday, October 16, 2012, students from Lawrence Education Center's GED class went on a field trip to the Illinois State Museum. Thank-you Springfield Public Schools Foundation for making this day a memorable one!

On Thursday, April 26, 2012, Lawrence Education Center will be taking a group of students to the Illinois State Capitol for a rally to show our support for adult education. The bus will be leaving at approximately 12:35 and returning to Lawrence Education Center before 3:00PM.

Lawrence Education Center is proud to announce that Janet Ulm, our workforce specialist, has been named the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association’s Support Staff of the Year.

Lawrence Education Center held a Holiday Celebration on Tuesday, December 20. Students were invited to enjoy cookies, choose a book, and select a holiday gift item. Also, a drawing for two grocery gift cards was held. Everyone enjoyed the event.

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, Lawrence Education Center had the opportunity to take a group of students on a field trip to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum & Library (ALPLM). The ALPLM brought the story of Abraham Lincoln to life.

On April 9, 2008, a group of students and faculty from Lawrence Education Center attended the Adult Education and Literacy Legislative Awareness Day rally at the Illinois State Capitol. It was a complete a success, and everyone had a lot of fun.

A sculpture workshop consisting of two sessions was held on February 27th and 28th. The workshop was made possible through a generous grant from the Springfield Public Schools Foundation. The workshop was taught by John Crisp, Jr.

Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Francis Seward visited VIA/Literacy's Families & Library Fun program on February 16, 2008. Parents and their children joined together to celebrate unity and the achievements of all individuals at the Lincoln Library on this chilly winter evening.

A card making workshop was held on Wednesday, February 13th at Lawrence Education Center. The workshop was made possible through a generous grant from the Springfield Public School Foundation. The workshop was taught by Judy Hauffe and Madeline White of Prairie Art Stamps.

A recognition ceremony was held for the students and included a motivational speaker, cookies and hot chocolate. The ceremony started off with introduction of Kevin Lust, motivational speaker who owns his own company, Lust Development Group.

A Job Fair was held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lawrence Education Center on Thursday, October 11th, 2007. A variety of employers were present and included representatives from hospitality, medical, employment/staffing services, inventory specialist, package processing, supportive living...

During the summer of 2007, the orange carpet that had been used during the original restoration was removed and replaced with hard wood flooring. Again the Springfield Public Schools Foundation supported this endeavor by assisting with the $6,500 cost.

Lawrence Education Center hosted the Springfield Chamber of Commerce's Good Morning, Springfield! on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. This is the Chamber’s monthly morning networking program.

Lawrence Education Center had a bus full of students and staff who had a great time during the rally. On the ride over to the Capitol, donated prizes were given out to students who knew the answers to the LOBBY DAY QUIZ.

Lawrence Education Center held the semi-annual Awards Reception during 3rd and 5th hour on Wednesday, December 20, 2006. While watching the recipients receive their awards, students enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies.

A day filled with a train ride, pumpkins, and a lot of fall colors was enjoyed by all.

PACT and parenting/computer activities at Calvary Baptist Church kept us very busy!

A day trip to the Oakridge Family Zoo was a ton of fun!

PACT activities, Library Reading Night, and computer/parenting activities kept us busy all evening long.

Oak Hill Cemetary is located in Lewistown, Illinois. It is where Edgar Lee Masters wrote about the characters in the Spoon RiverAnthology. All pictures were either taken by Michele Romence or Meredith Mudd during June 2002.

Through a fundraising initiative, the Board of the Springfield Public School Foundation purchased 10 state of the art Dell desktop computers for Lawrence Education Center. The computers are being placed in the School of Business computer lab to be utilized by students.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2006, the families joined Barb and Bonnie for an evening of fun at Lincoln Library.

On Wednesday, June 7, 2006, the past and present faculty at Lawrence Education Center celebrated the retirement of Patti Camille.

On Thursday, May 26, 2006, the Lawrence School of Business held a luncheon to award students who have completed courses in the LSOB with Certificates of Completion.

Shhhh! Don't tell Barb, but we planned a surprise for her. On Tuesday, May 23, 2006, a representative from the American Red Cross presented a Certificate of Recognition to Barb. She had been nominated in March as our Community Hero and Work Place Hero.

This working library, located in the Lawrence Education Center, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Susan Lawrence Dana in 1905. She wanted a tribute to her father, Rheuna Lawrence, once president of the Springfield School Board.
